What to do in the West of County Clare

Horses and ponies are available locally. Quiet country roads, the coast and the beaches invite for walking and bicycling. The many sandy beaches around also offer plenty of water activities or just relaxing watching the waves rolling in from the Atlantic at the beach in Spanish Point. Surfers find excellent conditions there and just off the coast with one of the most spectacular surfing spots in Ireland. A surfing school is here in season and equipment can be rented.

If you'd like it less active - spend your day sightseeing. There are the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren region, the Ailwee Caves, Bunratty Folk Park, the Loop Head Peninsula, well known for rare birds, dolphins and whale watching. Boats also leave from Carrigaholt and Kilrush Marina on Dolphin Watching tours. The town of Kilkee offers an outdoor activity centre for all kinds of water sports.
